Hello,
My laptop is not under warranty anymore. The hard drive is now dead. The company didn't give me a restore disk. I want to buy a new drive, but I won't have a Windows disk to reinstall. What are my options?

Welcome to hoa-viet, chutu!
What you can do is purchase a new drive (from eBay or some other online stores) and install Windows XP or Vista on the new drive. Whether you want to go with Vista or XP, it is entirely up to you. To use Vista, your laptop should have at least 2GB of RAM memory and a decent video graphics card.
If you can post the make & model of your laptop, I can help find out what size of hard drive your machine will handle and recommend a good drive for replacement.

Can I use a download version of XP? I already paid Microsoft once when I bought the laptop. I don't want to buy XP one more time.

I will give you the links to download XP. You just need to go buy a replacement hard drive and we will take care of you.

chutu,
I am sorry to hear about your computer failure.
This is a bad week to have a hard drive crash. The people who runs this forum have a policy where they arbitrarily ban helpful members here. So we are afraid to answer your question as helpful members could arbitrarily be banned from VF.

First thing is the laptop doesn't boot. It says there is no boot sector or something like that. Second thing is the Setup menu doesn't detect the hard drive. Somebody suggests that the MBR is corrupted. But if the MBR is corrupted, then the Setup menu can still detect the hard drive if it is not dead, right?

It is the hard drive. The BIOS is now recognizing the new hard drive. Where can I get a copy of XP?

What you need is the hirenboot 9.3 ( I think I did post in VF, I'll check up later, dl hirenboot, then use Nero make bootable cd, then put cd in and restart, the screen will ask you that you want to start from cd or hard drive, chose # 2 cd, then in the menu, they have everything as like Antivirus, check up & repair bad sector, format drive, repair..........try to repair bad sector first ( that is what I think the problem ) they also have clear admin Pass ( If " hot " kakakakaak )
Now I need to " lục kho " and post .

you are better off with a new hard drive, I have the sector fixed and also low level format on my laptop before, but it played up again after few months.
